Drama In The Senate Chamber As Dino Melaye Raises A Powerful Point Of Order That May Finally End SARS….See Details
The Nigerian Senate, have expressed its concerns  over the spate of killings of innocent Nigerians by police officers attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the Nigerian higher legislative chamber on Tuesday stated that the Police reform bill will be given an amendment.

This was following a motion by Senator Dino Melaye from Kogi West Senatorial District disclosing that there was an incessant killings of innocent citizens by members of the Nigerian Police Force.

“Mr. President, distinguished members, I move a motion on Order 42, to explain that in the last one week, about three innocent Nigerians have been killed by SARS.

“There have been incessant killings by the happily triggered members of the Nigeria Police especially SARS. I want to say that Nigeria is not in a war situation, Mr President.

“We shall be having a report on Nigeria Police reform bill tomorrow (Wednesday) and I like the Senate to use the opportunity to reform the Police so that they shall not kill all of us.”

In his speech on the floor of the chamber, Saraki acknowledged that there was a spate of bloodshed in the land by the officers of the Nigerian Police Force. He disclosed that the Senate must reform the bill in a way that it would stop killings stating that the police must not take arms and go against those that they are meant to protect.

The Senate President directed the  Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs to make his report ready without further ado.

It will be recalled that the outspoken senator already posted a tweet on his twitter platform urging the Inspector General of Police to intervene decisively    “There is no better time to reform the police especially SARS than now. The IGP must redeem the battered image of the Force. It is becoming unbecoming. The Lives of Nigerians should be precious to all. Enough of indiscriminate Killings. – SDM.”

Meanwhile in an official visit to Lagos yesterday the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu  has issued a stern warning to police officers over the extra judical killings in his words below

“My visit has become expedient in view of the recent trend of unprofessional conducts by some personnel who, in utter disregard of their professional training, international protocols, constitutional dictates, Force policies, and ethical standards, have continued to drag the Force into acts that pitch us against the citizens we were engaged, paid, and statutorily obligated to serve and protect.

“From January to April, 2019, Lagos State has recorded four incidents of misuse of firearms which have resulted in extrajudicial killings of young citizens of this country and injury to others. I must emphasise that enough is enough. The nation and indeed the police under the current leadership can no longer tolerate abuse associated with the police either in Lagos or any other part of the country.

“I have already ordered that a signal be circulated to all police commands and formations, warning of dire consequences against any personnel that, by their incorrigible acts, deviate from accepted police culture and values.
“Our visit is to reinforce the extant Force Accountable Policy which holds any officer professionally and criminally liable for the consequences of their actions, particularly, if such misuse of power resulted into the death, injury or indignity of citizens.
